Vernita Bridges-Hoyt is a professional portrait artist of children, adults and animals. Vernita is a founding member of Art Helping Animals. She earned a Bachelor of Architecture, B.Arch, from the University of Houston 1993 and interned with architecture firms in Houston, Texas: Popham Walter Architects, Watkins Carter Hamilton Architects, Jackson & Ryan Architects and worked independently with Scott Ziegler, FAIA of Ziegler Cooper Architects on a residential project for Coastal Living Magazine. That project and another designed for the Crockett Clinic in Crockett, Texas, led her to open an architectural design practice in 1996.

Vernita has painted since she was a young child taking her first oil classes at the age of nine years. Her life path led her through varied experience as a bookkeeper, secretary, executive assistant, real estate broker, advertising executive, and project architect. Now she has come full circle back to professional artist. Vernita has received awards for architectural designs and community work from the Univeristy of Houston Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture as well as awards for graphic design at North Harris Montgomery College. Her paintings have been awarded 1st place blue ribbons and 1st place honorable mention by Northwest Art League, a member organization of parent organization Texas Art Leagues.
